What are VOCs and why are they important?

According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are the gases emitted from certain solids or liquids – some of which may have short- and long-term adverse health effects. VOCs can pose a wide range of health risks. Depending on the level of exposure and length of time exposed, one may experience adverse symptoms such as eye, nose, and throat irritation as well as dizziness and headaches. Long or repeated exposure to VOCs can cause damage to the liver, kidneys, and central nervous system. To learn more about the health risks associated with VOCs, click here.

Rubio Monocoat

A NATURAL FLOOR FINISH
Monocoat all-natural oil wood floor finishes are plant-based, VOC-free and completely non-toxic oil finishes of extraordinary durability. Available in clear finish and more than 30 color finishes, all apply evenly in a single coating. All Monocoat finishes are easily maintained, and provide a subtle lustre that reveals and complements, rather than covers, the natural grain and patina of the wood.
A REVOLUTIONARY TECHNOLOGY
Monocoat adheres with the first microns of wood by molecular bonding. As a result, Monocoat Natural Oil can cover an average 400 sq. ft. of floor per liter. And because of molecular bonding, no surface film can form, and no variable saturation can occur. Not only is a second coat not required, the finished wood will not accept a second coat. The same action protects against overlaps and color variance and causes the process to complete in one coat.
EASY TO TOUCH UP
Monocoat Natural Oil finish bonding technology allows local touch up of damaged areas or scratches, because only the free wood fibers will take the touchup coating.

Hard Wax Oil - pure solid, no-VOC

Size
A natural, durable finish for wood, cork, and stone interior surfaces.  Unearthed Hard Wax Oil is "pure solids," which means it contains absolutely no solvents or water.  This premium wood finish is made with only natural oils, waxes, and resins.  Made by melting Carnauba Wax and colophonium resin into a mixture of linseed oil and tung oil. Linseed oil ensures a deep penetration of even the smallest wood pores thanks to a small molecule size and a long processing time.

Our Hard Wax Oil is a great natural alternative to finishing your wood floors or furniture with polyurethane. Hard Wax Oil produces a satin finish that is durable, low in odor and can be easily spot repaired. For each 2.5 liter can we sell, we protect 420 square feet of rain forest.

- Free of solvents and water, very high yield
- Breathable, antistatic
- Silky-matte, appealing to touch, "warm" surface
- Easy to apply, easy to repair
- Excellent permeation
- Suitable for the treatment of toys (in accordance
to DIN EN 71, part 3)
- Does not tear or become brittle
- Durable, dirt- and water repellent
- Transparent, honey tinge
- Emphasizes the color of the wood
- Long "open" processing time
- Not recommended for humid rooms

Coverage:
Coverage will vary based on the absorbency of the wood (for example, porous woods such as pine will require significantly more Hard Wax Oil than a hard cherry wood).  Cork requires even more.  Average coverage amount is 420 square feet per 2.5 liters.

How to Use:
Apply with a brush or roller.  Also suitable for floor machines with soft pads.  After a drying time of approximately 20-30 minutes, polish with a clean, lint-free cloth.

Prior to application, stir gently as some natural separation may occur.

IMPORTANT: Thoroughly remove all excess oil when polishing the surface, as excessive oil may lead to glossy, sticky spots. Unearthed Hard Wax Oil should permeate completely into the wood and must not form a layer on the wood

Care:
With proper care, Hard Wax Oil will last beautifully for many years.

After applying Hard Wax Oil to your floors, avoid walking on it for about 24 hours.  This waiting time will allow the finish to properly dry.  Additionally, you should avoid using water to clean the floor for the first month after application (sweeping and vacuuming are fine).

For routine cleaning, sweep or use a vacuum with a wood floor attachment.  Use luke warm water to clean (never hot water), and use only soft (cotton) wipes.  For regular maintenance and cleaning use luke warm water with Unearthed Carnauba Wax Emulsion.  To remove dirt that will not come off with water and Carnauba Wax Emulsion, use gentle, natural soaps such as Unearthed Marseille Soap.  Do not use microfiber cloths or pads, which will wear away the oil.  Wipe away any liquid spills as soon as possible- do not allow them to dry on the surface.

SAFETY WARNING!  Cloths containing Hard Wax Oil can self-ignite.  Allow drenched cloths to dry in a fire-safe location such as  a closed, fire-proof container (glass or tin can). Ensure that Hard Wax Oil does not come into contact with porous or absorbent insulation materials, and never pour Hard Wax Oil onto a floor because there is a risk that it could seep into insulation material and self ignite.
